Fun Friday!

Our first beach trip was a huge success! The kids had a blast and I think the beach is the perfect outdoor classroom. Sorry for the sandy uniforms! ;) Thank you to all parents that volunteered or sent water. We plan to have beach lessons/project work each Friday as weather permits. If you are interested in volunteering any particular Friday, please let me know. :)

Happy Weekend!

Our Behavior System

Did your child come home last week saying they were on "Smooth Sailing"? Did they very excitedly tell you they made it to "A Day at the Beach"? Were they happy to report they were on the "Lighthouse", but got it together? Did you wonder what in the world all of this meant??

Meet our behavior management system! Each child has a clip with their name on it that starts at Smooth Sailing each morning. Throughout the day, clips can move continuously up and down on the chart based on each student's behavior. Here's what each level means:

  • A Day at the Beach: This level is at the very top of our chart. It is reserved for the one or two students each day who exhibit exemplary behavior. If a student ends the day at this level, they receive a trip to the treasure chest. I will also report this achievement in their Parent-Teacher Communicator.
  • Smooth Sailing: All students start the day at this level and it represents behavior that is on target for Kindergarten. Each day, it should be your child's goal to end on Smooth Sailing. Occasionally, I will reward each child that ends the day on this level with a small treat such as a sticker.
  • Lighthouse: This level is a warning. When your child is at this level they have been warned to stop a particular behavior. If they "get it together" and begin behaving, they can move back from this level. I will not report a Lighthouse day in your child's communicator. Everyone makes mistakes and the most important thing is to learn from them and move forward. That's what the Lighthouse is all about.
  • On the Rocks: This is the final level on our chart. Being on this level indicates repeated misbehavior(s) even with repeated warnings. A day "On the Rocks" will be discussed with the child and reported in their communicator with a note about the particular misbehavior.
If you ever have any questions about your child's behavior, please feel free to contact me! We had a lot of children on "Smooth Sailing" all last week. I am so proud of these sailors!

Happy Wednesday Sailors!

I have really enjoyed getting to know each of your students the past few days. Kindergarten is a truly wonderful experience and I hope your children are enjoying school.

I am posting this as a quick update that our visit to the fire station Friday has been cancelled due to a change in availability. I apologize. We are hoping to reschedule soon. I know the fire station will be a wonderful trip for our students and I will keep you posted as we reschedule.

Thanks for your support! We love our TIMA parents!

Kindergarten Welcome

Welcome to Kindergarten!

I am so excited to be teaching at TIMA. I look forward to working with you  and each of your children this year. Please refer to your newsletter each week for information on class events, homework and learning objectives. In addition to the newsletter, I will use this blog to post reminders and stories from our class. Please remember, if you have any questions you are free to e-mail me any time.

This Week:
  • Help your child find an item at home that begins with the "Short A" sound (example: apple, action figure, alligator, etc.). Send this item to school for your child to share with the class.
  • Please return the Walking Field Trip permission form that will be sent home this week by Friday
Thanks!
