Community Helpers

Over the past two weeks, we have been learning about community helpers in Kindergarten. We learned about a variety of different jobs in the classroom, but had the honor to be visited by four different community helpers last week! Check out photos and information below to meet the different helpers we met. (Please excuse the incorrect orientation of many of these photos.)

Police Officers: Our community helpers guest speaker series got its start with a visit from Tybee police officers. The officers spoke to the students and helped them better understand what police officers do. Then the presentation moved outside and became even better! The officers explained different features of a squad car to the kids and demonstrated as appropriate. To top it all off, each child had the opportunity to get inside the back of the car. The kids loved it!

Principal: Mr. Rossiter spoke to students about the many roles and duties of a principal. He also shared with students how he became a principal and emphasized the importance of education. He shared "The Principal from the Black Lagoon" with the group, much to the delight of the students. The visit ended with a tour of the principal's office. The kids were thrilled to have that experience in a positive light. :)

Healthcare Professionals: Dr. Aaron Pederson and our very own Nurse Carol shared about their respective jobs. In addition to explaining duties, Nurse Carol explained a lot about the history of nursing to students and Dr. Pederson shared about what he had to do to become a doctor.
