In the past few weeks we have been studying author and illustrator Peter Brown. We've read You Will Be My Friend and discussed ways to make friends. We revisited Brown's Caldecott Award Winning illustrations in Creepy Carrots and drew our own creepy creations. We have also taken a second look a Georgia Children's Book Award Nominee Mr. Tiger Goes Wild and learned about Brown's influences for the book's artwork. We then discussed our own influences. Next we will venture into the Curious Garden and reflect on how we can help the earth! Throughout the study we will continue to look for similarities and differences in Brown's approaches and style. For more info on Brown, check out his awesome website and blog found at http://www.peterbrownstudio.com/. Look below to see our own creepy carrot designs.

Crab Shack Field Study
We had an amazing field study at the Crab Shack today! Students enjoyed viewing restaurants through a different lens- as a tourist attraction. Students learned about various types of crabs and enjoyed animal encounters with an alligator and exotic birds. A huge thanks goes out to Amanda Wilder for helping organize this fabulous trip and to all of the parents who braved the cold and our delayed start to help out on this trip. Our field studies and projects would not be possible without parents. I know I say that a lot, but I say it because it is so true. Thank you for all that you do!
